Colorful Sayings of Martin Luther  -

On Human Nature:
    -  "Nothing is easier than sinning."
    -  "Temptations, of course, cannot be avoided, but because we cannot prevent
        the birds from flying over our heads, there is no need that we should let
        them nest in our hair."

On Preaching:
    -  "It is not necessary for a preacher to express all his thoughts in one sermon.
        A preacher should have three principles: first, to make a good beginning,
        and not spend time with many words before coming to the point;
        secondly, to say that which belongs to the subject in chief, and avoid
        strange and foreign thoughts;
        thirdly, to stop at the proper time."

On Christian freedom:
     -  "If our Lord is permitted to create nice large pike and good Rhine wine,
         presumably I may be allowed to eat and drink."

And this . . .
"This life therefore
is not righteousness
but growth in righteousness;
not health but healing,
not being but becoming,
not rest but exercise.
We are not yet what we shall be
but we are growing toward it;
the process is not yet finished
but it is growing on;
this is not the end
but it is the road.
All does not gleam in glory
but all is being purified."
                                                                                -  Martin Luther
